‘Collecting data from <computer name> failed The RPC server is unavailable (1722) error in Server Log’

DESCRIPTION

DeviceLock Enterprise Server is unable to collect data from remote computers, returning the “Collecting data from failed – The RPC Server is unavailable” error found in Server Log.

COMMENTS

The error indicates severe problems in RPC communication between DeviceLock Server and DeviceLock Service. It may also indicate that the account used to run DeviceLock Enterprise Server does not have administrative privileges on the remote computer, where the server is collecting from.

RECOMMENDATIONS

1.    Check if the account used to run  DeviceLock Server (see ‘Log on as’ parameter), has local administrative privileges on the remote computer;
a.    If true, proceed to step 2;
b.    If false, you must replace it with the one that does have the required privileges. Otherwise use "LOCAL SYSTEM" account and install DeviceLock Certificates for authentication on DeviceLock Agents;
2.    Check if Default Security is disabled (DeviceLock Administrators list is active) for DeviceLock Service on the computer the DeviceLock Enterprise Server is unable to collect from;
a.    If true, make sure that this is the same account that is used to run DeviceLock Enterprise Server (see ‘Log on as’ parameter), or install DeviceLock Certificates for authentication (inevitable in case the value is ‘Local system’);
b.    If false, install DeviceLock Certificates for authentication.
