Configuration - Resolving "Access is Denied (5)" when Installing DeviceLock Content Security Server

DESCRIPTION

The installation of DeviceLock Content Security Server interrupts with ‘Access is denied  (5)’ error after the connection settings have been specified.

COMMENTS

The error indicates that installation process is initiated by a user who does not have full administrative access to DeviceLock Content Security Server (in case it already exists and you are installing an upgrade), which makes the configuration wizard unable to install the service and apply changes. Also, a similar error may occur when current user does not have local administrative privileges on the computer where DeviceLock Content Security Server is being installed.

RECOMMENDATIONS

1.    Make sure that the account you are using for the installation does have local administrative privileges: try to run installation of any other software on this computer on behalf of this user account;
2.    In case an upgrade is performed, run the installation process of DeviceLock Content Security  Server under user account used for the initial installation of the DeviceLock Content Security Server;
3.    If the above does not help, or the initial user account is not accessible, run Registry editor under a local administrative account, and:
a.    Delete  [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\DLCSS] key;
b.    Take ownership over  [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SmartLine Vision\DeviceLockContentSecurityServer] key ([HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SmartLine Vision\DeviceLockContentSecurityServer] on 64-bit OS);
c.    Reboot;
d.    Delete [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SmartLine Vision\DeviceLockContentSecurityServer] key ([HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SmartLine Vision\DeviceLockContentSecurityServer] on 64-bit OS);
e.    Start the installation of DeviceLock Content Security Server again.
