City of London Police Selects DeviceLock« To Secure USB Ports.
Information security has always been a top priority for the City of London Police but has become even more so since its involvement in the Home Office IMPACT program which is designed to improve the sharing of information between police forces. As this necessitates the transfer of highly sensitive data, the police force has taken industry leading steps to ensure information leakage is avoided at all costs, its electronic borders are protected and the integrity of its information secured.
As well as a comprehensive IT security policy endpoint device security solution DeviceLock« from SmartLine Inc has been implemented to safeguard against the unauthorised electronic copying and transmission of data on to mobile devices and to ensure all potential points for electronic data leakage have been identified and secured.
DeviceLock« provides central access control for device management and audit control of information being transferred to and from the secure environment onto portable media. Using DeviceLock«, head if information management for City of London Police, Gary Brailsford-Hart can lock out unauthorised users from a whole host of plug and play devices including; USB and FireWire devices, WiFi and Bluetooth adapters, CD-Rom and floppy drives, serial and parallel ports, PDAs and smartphones. He can also centrally define and remotely control the encryption policies for using removable devices for storing and retrieving corporate data. For example, certain employees can be allowed to write to and read from only specifically encrypted USB flash drives, while other users of the corporate network can be permitted to "read only" from non-encrypted removable storage devices but not write to them thus preventing malicious or negligent leakage of sensitive corporate information to unencrypted or otherwise unapproved media.
As Mr. Brailsford comments, "Since 2005 the City of London Police have been successfully using Devicelock to manage device security across the enterprise. This has provided central access control for device management and audit control of information being transferred to and from the secure environment onto portable media. Robust monitoring has been developed using Devicelock and this provides me with a high degree of confidence in the security of our information."
