DeviceLock® Plug and Play Auditor

Case Study
Stahl Locks the Side Doors with DeviceLock®

DeviceLock® ensures that users cannot simply download data from the network and copy it to USB sticks, laptops and other mobile equipment. Stahl operates an internally developed system for granting authorisations. Employees are assigned to groups and, depending on the group, they may or may not be allowed to read or read and write on removable discs. Those who are not a member of a group are automatically denied all access. Ultimately approval must be given on three levels, on the basis of a workflow model. It is only when the employee's own manager, the local IT coordinator and the 'object owner' (which can be a shared file, an application or a group) have given their permission that the employee is assigned to a group and granted access to the active directory environment.

DeviceLock® Plug and Play Auditor

USB and FireWire ports are standard components on almost all computers today, while laptops have another port – PCMCIA. The abundance of devices of different types and functions - from removable storage, PDAs, digital cameras to WiFi and Bluetooth adaptors - can all be simply connected via these Plug-and-Play ports. Some devices have over 200GB of storage, while others can turn a local computer into an unprotected gateway to the entire network putting intellectual property and corporate records at risk for theft or destruction. At this moment dozens of devices may be connected to your corporate network.

DeviceLock® Plug and Play Auditor is a non-intrusive clientless software solution that generates reports displaying the USB, FireWire and PCMCIA devices currently connected to computers in the network and those that were connected. Its multithreaded engine ensures fast, unobtrusive auditing of all activity on any computers in an organization.

DeviceLock® PnP Auditor has a Multi Document Interface (MDI) structure, allowing you to keep each task in its own window. It displays the audit results in the form of a tree. However, it can also be displayed in the form of a plain list. Results can be exported to Microsoft Excel for thorough analysis and review.

DeviceLock® PnP Auditor stores, compares and filters the data it receives from all the computers. You can make "snapshots" of systems for future comparison and notation of changes.

DeviceLock® PnP Auditor runs on Windows 2000 and later systems and doesn’t install any components on remote computers. It allows you to select computers for auditing directly from the Microsoft Network tree or from any LDAP tree (e.g. MS Active Directory, Novell eDirectory, Open LDAP, etc.). You can also load a list of computers or IP addresses from the external file.
